Mission Statement

To continually improve and develop the club as a provider of competitive and social cricket for adults and juniors (male and female) supported by high quality facilities and played in a sporting and enjoyable atmosphere.

Aims

  • Harness and develop all young cricketers so they have the opportunity to contribute to the game of cricket at all levels and play a central role in club cricket life
To continue to enhance the reputation of the Youth Section and increase the number of players in District and County Winter Squads. To increase the number of qualified coaches to support an increased number of youth players and to enhance the quality of the general coaching provision and increase the trained volunteer force (via HCB Volunteers Course). Continue to grow the Youth section via our reputation, school links, local and website advertising. To use the enhanced status of the senior section to improve the retention of talented youth players and to ensure their successful transition from youth to senior cricket To identify improved indoor facilities, including video analysis software and bowling machines to increase further the training of squads during the off season

  • Develop and strengthen a structure and pathway for women and girls to actively participate in and follow cricket
Continue the recruitment of female players of all ages from family links, local schools and Yateley Hockey Club. Increase the number of age-group squads for girls. Continue to develop the full Ladies team. Increase the number of female coaches and volunteers. Use external coaches (eg Dummer) to supplement our own resources.

  • Develop and strengthen the whole club environment, promoting cricketing opportunities for disabled people
Improve accessibility to Clubhouse for disabled people and apply for grants to fund any structural work necessary. Provide disabled parking bays close to the Clubhouse. Encourage people of all capablilites and abilities to join the club as players, scorers, umpires, committee members, helpers, spectators and associate members.

  • Develop and promote cricket for black and ethnic minorities
Improve awareness of the Club's Equal Opportunities Policy interally and externally. Encourage existing ethnic minority Club members to recruit members from their communities. Research for any mixed race Youth Clubs in the area, consider deploying coaches to the Youth Club and encourage membership of Yateley Cricket Club. Encourage black and ethnic minority members to qualify as coaches and volunteers Encourage black and ethnic minority members to take committee positions and act as role models

  • Ensure that our cricket club is an integral part of the local community, contributing an invaluable service to all sections of the local community, developing club members, supporters and volunteers
Continue to promote joint playing and social activities with Yateley Hockey Club. Maintain close links with the Town and County Councils Continue to provide playing facilities to the local schools. Offer Club facilities to other local community groups within the contraints of the Club licence and encourage the local community to attend matches and Club social activities. Family Membership has been introduced to encourage wider membership.

  • Develop and strengthen senior playing teams, providing positive role models to all club members, leading achievement and success
Having successfully entered the Thames Valley League in 2008 we have achieved promotion to a higher Division and we will continue to push for promotion up the Divisions. Use the enhanced status of the senior section to improve the retention of talented youth players and to ensure their successful transition from youth to senior cricket. The building of the second ground at Chandlers Lane has been completed. This will allow all senior and youth home games to be played at Chandlers Lane enabling increased usage of the clubhouse and other facilities Increase the coaching programme for senior members Use the Saturday 3rd XI and Sunday XIs as development teams to bring Youth members into Senior cricket.

How will we get there?
We maintain links with our schools and encourage boys and girls to join on the club training sessiosn, however we have struggled to hold coaching sessions in the school or arrange inter school matchesd this year. This has been due to the available time of our coaches and the shortage of playing facilities.
When will we get there?
We have plans for a second ground, for which we have secured ECB funding. This was expected to be available for the end of the 2008 season, however due to delays in obtaining local council planning approval and the complications of using a land-fill site (a Contaminated Land Assessment is now required by the local council) we now don't expect this to be avaiable for playing until the end of 2009 at best. This facility is needed for our club growth plans and our school activity. Our coaches ahev limited time during the day to arrange sessions at the schools. We will be investigating uising paid coaches from the Hampshire area.
Who is responsible and partners we will be working with?
Chris Jacobs is managing the development of the second ground. Colin Justice is investigating paid coaches.
What will it cost (including in kind costs)?
The second ground is costing £90,000. £68,000 has been offered in the way of a grant from the ECB. The remainder has been raised by the Club through fund raising and other donations and grants. The cost of paid coaches is not yet known and is being investigated.

Five Year Future Objectives

Current Figures What we are Planning Total Growth in 5 Years Time Action Required
Participation 350 5% Growth in 5 Years 367.5 The Club currently has no problem recruiting more Youth members. The limiting factor has been the availability of picthes. Construction of a second ground is complete but won't be ready for matches until 2011. Recruiting senior players is more difficult. We have entered a higher League to gain more profile and every year we have a recruitment drive. This is beginning to show results.
Club Membership 245 5% Growth in 5 Years 257.25 As above
Coaching Roles 38 5% Growth in 5 Years 39.9 The main source of new coaches is to put more parents through courses. We activily encourage this and generally the Club funds the cost.
Volunteer Roles 106 5% Growth in 5 Years 111.3 We are approaching Volunteer agencies to find more volunteers who are not currently involved with the Club. We are particluarly looking for ground staff.

In addition to the above our five year objectives are:
We have a strong reputation in the area for coaching and developing Youth. We are striving for this to be the case for girls and ladies cricket, and we are making good ground. We want this to continue and be the best Club in the area for cricket development. The Youth is the lifeblood of the senior section. We have a clear approach to moving youngsters into senior cricket. We will continue to use this approach as well as look to attract better players into senior cricket. We aim to be one of the top sides in the area in both Youth and senior cricket and look to progress up the Thames valley League to Premier League status. It may well take more than 5 years to achieve Premier League status.
